Straining beneath the weight of her backpack, Genesis felt her way through the darkened hall as she listened to the House's familiar night sounds. The familiar creaking boards and the snores of the residents should have comforted her and given her a sense of normalcy. However, as she tiptoed to her old room, she couldn't help but feel like a burglar. In fact, one could say she had broken in, although no one could accuse her of forcible entry. Still, porting into the House without permission at night was her only option. I can bend space at will, she thought with a slight smile, but I can't change bus schedules.
The teleporter stood before the door to her room and placed her hand to her chin. She didn't know if she ought to knock or just slip in. On one hand, she didn't want to disturb her roommates. On the other hand, they might not be pleased to see a deserter sleeping in their room unannounced next morning. Genesis reached for the doorknob and drew away, over and over, as if learning a new dance step. No matter what she did, they'd see her as a nuisance or a threat or a coward or a...
Oh, for Pete's sake. With unexpected force, she finally swung open the door, rushed into the room, and turned to close the door behind her, all in the same motion. She stepped forward into the dark room with such determination that she didn't notice a sizable wrinkle in the carpet. It made itself known by catching against her sneakers and sending her sprawling toward the floor.
"Ah, shoot!"
Genesis couldn't help crying out as gravity took its course and slammed her body against the carpet. Fighting the urge to tend to her bruised knee, she lay as still as possible, hoping no one had noticed her clumsy entrance.
(OOC: Ah, it feels good to roleplay again. Oh, and I'm assuming the rooms have removable carpet. If they don't, I can easily change my post.)

"-Uh?"
Zepher was not the most articulate, when woken in the middle of the night. She propped herself up on one elbow, rubbing at her bleary eyes. Startled out of a dream born of memory, it took the empath a moment to identify her surroundings - the bed was too wide for her bunk at Orion, the room too small and the mattress too thick. After a moment, as she came fully awake, Zepher felt a little silly - of course she was in her room at the House, where she'd lived for nearly seven years now. And that meant that the yell that had awoken her - she'd registered the yell, but not what had been said - couldn't have been the result of one of Minty's nightmares.
She looked around the room, eyes unusually wide to best use the faint light filtering in from behind the curtains. There was a dark form lying sprawled on the floor, and the pattern, the individual feel of the person's emotions was familiar. Her empathy was low at the moment, and it had been a while since she'd seen the girl; Zepher couldn't identify her right off the bat. It was someone who'd stayed here for a while, sometime back... who would be coming into her room at this time of night? Even in her half-asleep state, it didn't take her long to come up with a guess.
"Genesis?" she asked, staring hard at the other psy. "That you?"

"Mmrph." Genesis, still flat on her stomach, turned her head just enough to see the dim figure of her old roommate stirring in her bunk. Dang it, Gen had woken someone after all. To make matters worse, it was Zepher, the last person on the planet who needed a bothersome rad around.
"Yeah, it's me." Gen whispered as softly as possible as she felt Zepher trace through the red spots in her mind. "Sorry." Despite her fresh discomfort with scanning, the porter fought habit and held back her usual, protective mental image of a stop sign. Instead, she lay still like a frightened rabbit. She wondered briefly if she ought to just sleep on the floor, with her nose in the carpet and a rug burn on her knee. That way, she'd cause less trouble.
(OOC: "Red spots" and "blue spots" are Homewood slang for emotional and cognitive areas of the mind, respectively.)

"No, it's ok," Zepher said, sitting up in bed. She glanced over at Dakota's bed, but couldn't tell if the dinosaur girl had been woken, or even if she was in it. Zepher's night vision really wasn't the best. She returned her attention to Genesis, who, for some reason, was still lying in the middle of the floor.
"What are you doing down there?" she asked, sounding a little confused. Zepher swung her legs over the edge of her bed, peering down at the younger girl. "Are you all right, Gen?"

Gen almost laughed at Zepher's tone of concern. Standing or laying, I'm still a nuisance. Still, in an odd way, it was a nice change to have someone feel worried about her again. "I'm fine," she said softly as she slowly rolled onto her back and smiled slightly at the path above her. "But sheesh, when was the last time you guys shampooed this carpet?"
She rose to her feet and took another look around the room. Now that her eyes were adjusted to the dim light, she could tell that little had changed since she left. Well, at the very least, her bed was still vacant, and that was comfort enough.

Despite her normal tendency to sleep light, Dakota didn't awaken immediately when Genesis tripped. She did, however, come a few steps toward wakefulness, evidenced by her stirring slightly in her sleep. The conversation between Zepher and Genesis woke her up the rest of the way, and she asked, "Genesis? Where have you been all this time?" Her question began by sounding excitedly curious, but her excitement trailed off towards the end of the statement somewhat as she realized that Genesis might not want to talk about it; after all, Dakota hadn't wanted anyone to bring up where she had been after she had rediscovered The Pit. But she might as well ask anyway, and if Genesis didn't want to talk about it, that was fine with Dakota.

Gen turned toward the familiar voice and grinned. "Shoot, Dakota, I woke you too?" She spoke a bit louder - no use in whispering now.
Her gaze dropping to the floor, Genesis crossed her arms and slowly rubbed her elbow. Ever since making up her mind to return, she'd considered whether to tell the others the truth about Homewood. She scarcely mentioned her hometown to anyone - not even Mr. Alvarez, whom she almost loved like a father. Then again, perhaps she should talk about it. Doing so wasn't just a display of trust; it might also help her belong somehow. After all, some of the experiments willingly told her about their pasts, which were hellish in comparison, within seconds of her first arrival.
Yes, it was time to open up, if just a bit. "Well," Gen said in a low, reluctant tone, "I was looking for someone... an old friend... who might have helped me find my family." There. That was more than enough for the moment.
(OOC: For future reference, her friend's name is now spelled Mr. Alvarez, not Alavarez. I've noticed that Alvarez is a much more common last name, and Alavarez could be seen as a misspelling.)

"No luck, eh?" Zepher asked. She'd never actually tried tracking down anyone from her past; really, most of the people she could concievably track down were not people she wanted to see, ever again. Still, she felt sorry for Gen.
"If we're all awake, does anyone mind if I turn on the lights?" she asked, glancing over at the lightswitch. "I don't know about you two, but I'd rather not sit here in the dark, personally..."

"Don't worry about it, I'm a light sleeper," Dakota said to Genesis.
And, although it wasn't like Dakota could read Zepher's thoughts, she would have agreed about tracking down people from her past if she could. All of the people Dakota would have wanted to track down were either dead, or scattered to the winds after they escaped The Pit. More of them were the former than the latter.
To Genesis's statement, Dakota said nothing, letting Zepher answer her instead.
"No, I wouldn't mind that at all. Thank you," she said in response to Zepher's query about the lights, thanking Zepher in advance for being the one to get up.

(OOC: Sorry, I forgot all about this.)
At Zepher's question, Genesis forced a smile. "Yeah, no luck." She swallowed, trying to loosen the tightness in her throat. "She, well, slipped away before I found her."
The light? "Oh, that's okay," said Gen. "I'll get it; I'm already up." With much more cautious steps than before, she crossed the floor and felt against the wall next to the door until she found the switch. "Okay guys, here it comes." She shut her eyes tight and flicked on the light.
Slowly blinking, Genesis glanced at her old roommates clearly for the first time in months. As far as she could tell, they both looked reasonably well, except, perhaps, for their sleepiness. "So how have you two been?" she asked, more than happy to change the subject.
