Name: Kaspar
Age: 16 (Birthdate June 18th, 1990)
Gender: Male
Kaspar scarcely considers himself human. Despite this lack of human identification, Kaspar still demands to be treated as an equal by most humans. He has never had a problem with the idea of having a human own him as a pet, but he hates the idea of being dependent on his caretakers. That said, he also enjoys the pampering he has gotten thus far from his human owner. In keeping with this rather hypocritical attitude he seems to have, Kaspar likes to try to act like the wild hunter he looks like... Although his attempts are usually in vain. It is, after all, rather hard to stalk prey in a well-trimmed backyard when one is easily three feet high at the shoulder. Anyway, he wouldn't know what to do with anything he caught. So, though Kaspar can seem like a rather confused individual at times, in his own mind he knows exactly where he belongs.
Kaspar is, at first glance, a tiger. His size alone can be intimidating, since he stands a total of three feet, two inches tall at the shoulder, and is about nine feet in length not including the long tail, which adds nearly another three feet. He is not a lightweight creature either, weighing in at about 670 pounds. It takes a second glance (but not a long look or examination) to show that he is not quite what he seems to be. True, his body seems to be all tiger at first glance, but there are some differences that mark him as partially human. For one, his face is a bit flattened, just slightly less than a normal feline muzzle would be, but still enough to make a difference. Something not immediately noticeable is that his lips are much more mobile than those of a normal tiger as well, allowing him to formulate human speech without too much difficulty. A noticeable difference comes below the wristbone, where one can see that his paws are wider than normal. If he bothers to use them as such, it becomes immediately obvious that they are in fact almost hands. The dew claw is instead a partially opposable thumb, and the other toes are longer and more mobile than the toes of a normal animal. This allows him to use human objects without too much difficulty, although writing and manipulating other small objects is hard for him. A couple other small differences which were requested by his original owner are less natural for a tiger. For one, he has bright green eyes, which no tiger naturally possesses. He also has a bit of a mane, which is very small (more like a juvenile lion than a true mane), and continues down his back along his spine in a low ridge until the middle of his back, where it fades away. This mane is lighter on his back; around his neck it is the same color as the rest of him. Other than these subtle differences, there is little to suggest that Kaspar is any more than a normal tiger (and this is exactly the way he was designed to be).
- Background -
(Note: For now, this is going to be kept to the small version. I will probably elaborate more later on.)
Kaspar has never known any existence other than as a unique sort of pet. He was born in a facility called Smart Pet, Inc. and from birth was taken care of by a scientist named Jim Harerra. Early on, Kaspar was introduced to an easy life. He had to take a lot of medical tests to make sure everything was working correctly, and later on was tested for normal brain functions. Contrary to his animal appearance, Kaspar is just as intelligent as the average human, if not as knowledgeable due to his lack of schooling. True, he was taught how to read and write (although he never did much of the latter since it is very hard for him), how to do some simple mathmatics, and a little history from Dr. Harerra's kids, but he technically has only a first grade education. Dr. Harerra took his education further in areas of reading though, giving him kids books to read and learn from.
When Kaspar was six years old, he met the woman who had comissioned his creation. She was tall, a little intimidating, and cared only that Kaspar be obedient and calm around her. Truly, she had purchased him for little more than an exotic pet, and Kaspar didn't much care. He didn't want to leave Dr. Harerra, but he didn't have much of a choice either. After he met his soon-to-be mistress' son, however, he became a little more at ease. Eventually, he was taken away from Dr. Harerra entirely, leaving his house at the age of ten. Madam (as he called her) only wanted him around for her to show some of her guests, or occasionally so that she could take him out for a walk (during which time she talked incessantly about things that Kaspar never failed to forget mere minutes afterwards). However, her son, Jake, was much more interesting. He was the same age as Kaspar, and treated him as both a friend and a pet. He took Kaspar on long walks, let him jump into their indoor swimming pool when Madam wasn't home, and played fetch with him in the spacious backyard (although they had to use a soccer ball instead of a tennis ball, because Kaspar almost choked on the tennis ball several times). When they were inside, Jake would pile up a mound of pillows and stuffed animals in his room, which Kaspar would lounge on for hours while the boy was at school. He even let Kaspar sleep in his bed, although that left Jake sleeping on top of Kaspar due to his size. He brought his homework from school every day, and reviewed the various subjects with Kaspar. In this way, Kaspar was able to learn much more than he had known previously. For six years, his life was perfect.
But one day, this idyllic lifestyle changed completely. Madam came home with a new puppy, which Jake became very attached to. He didn't neglect Kaspar; quite the opposite. Now, the three of them (Jake, Kaspar, and the new dog named Duke by the boy himself) would play fetch, go swimming, and lounge in Jake's room. It was when the other dogs appeared that things began to go wrong. The first dog was an Akita puppy, and apparently Madam had decided to move her very successful dog breeding company to her house. The kennels were unattached to the house, but the dogs were given the run of the place during the day. They were domineering and pack-oriented, and none of them liked Kaspar. He would be eating his meals, and two or three of them would chase him away and devour the food themselves. They would chase him around the house until Jake or Madam stopped them, and once or twice they actually managed to catch and bite him. He only fought back once, but that was more than enough. He merely wanted them to go away, so he batted at one of them with his paw, forgetting to keep his claws retracted. The dog ran away with a horribly torn shoulder, and the others fled to the kennels also. Kaspar hid in Jake's closet for hours after that, knowing that Madam would be displeased. However, he never thought she would abandon him entirely. Three men came into the room with a large metal crate on wheels and a pole. On the end of the pole, he could see a sharp tip and a red tuft of fur. Was it a toy? Maybe they weren't mad at him after all...
He started to come out, hoping they would play with him, but instead the dart was poked into his shoulder. It stung, and he pulled it out with his teeth, but he scarcely had time to ask what that was for before he began to feel drowsy. He never passed out completely, but he was too dizzy and disoriented to move much or talk. They bundled him into the cage and put him in the back of a truck. A few minutes later, he fell asleep. He woke up in a wildlife sanctuary in a cage to himself. He hated it, and he found that it had been built for a tiger without thumbs. Any other animal couldn't have opened the lock, but he did it and ran away into the woods. After that, life got much harder. He had to sneak around at night, for he found upon his first interaction with a human that they were scared of him and wouldn't talk or help him. For a month, he wandered and took food from garbage cans, before he heard a couple people talking about the big abandoned victorian house that no one had wanted to buy for some reason. Kaspar decided to check it out, figuring that at least there might be some food or a comfortable bed there. He has yet to approach the place, but it won't be long before he does.
