I was just going back through the archives to refresh myself on the Media Plot, and it occurred to me that the last time we discussed it was several months ago, and several factors might have changed since then. So I wanted to recap the Media Plot and make sure I still know what's going on. So here are some of the things we decided at the time.
1) That the Media Plot should be brought up at the House Meeting (check)
2) That said Media Plot should consist of certain, more human-looking 'informants' giving information to a reporter (whether that reporter found the House, or whether the House found him was never really decided, I don't think)
3) That there should be a vote at the House Meeting on whether or not to go through with the Media Plot
4) That the majority should be in favor of exposure, with the out-voted minority contributing to escalating tensions within the House (Diet Drama, remember?)
5) That the scientists will get wind of the Media Plot, and blackmail the House into not exposing themselves, for the sake of keeping the labs secret
6) That the informants will leak carefully guarded information to the reporter anyway, and leave him to piece it together on his own
7) That the reporter eventually figures out the full story; bada boom, Full Exposure for experimentation
8) That the House itself shall remain secret throughout this
9) That there will be additional awesome plot-opportunities as experiments fight for their rights, become victims of hate-crimes, and all kinds of other fun stuff that comes with public awareness
10) That society will, eventually (within the next few centuries or so; but almost certainly not within the timeframe of this roleplay) come to accept experiments as /people/
There are two things I want to add to all this:
First, I don't think we've ever considered /how/ the scientists are going to blackmail the House. They can't really communicate with the House directly without serious risk to their lives, and if they communicate through their spies, they'd give their spies away. Hey, wait. Does the House have a phone? I'd assume it would, but nobody's ever mentioned there being one.
Another thing we never considered was that the scientists will probably still be mad that they've been revealed. And if they knew ahead of time about the plan to leak information to the media, they might have a fairly good idea who tattled; they might not care that the informant group only gave the reporter carefully guarded information. So there could maybe be a sequel plot where the scientists do something about the mess they're in (some sort of revenge, possibly?)
Anyway, there were also a few things related to the House meeting that weren't part of the Media Plot. Chores (which Deltar's got covered. EDIT: Nevermind, it seems Tarr does), and Social Nights. Are we still wanting to go forward with the Social Nights idea? And if so, who wants to bring it up? It strikes me as a rather Zepher-ish idea, but I can have Echo bring it up if need be. That is, if people are still interested.
Actually, on second thought, maybe we should post-pone Social Nights and save it for another House meeting. We'll have enough going on with the Media Plot. Plus, people aren't really gonna want to be social with all the drama and tension we have planned for them.
