This was it. After Tara had come all this way to the House, it was just up a flight of stairs, walk to the right room, and knock. She was about to meet the one Damien had sent her to find, the one named Aerie.
Aerie was trying to fall asleep when she heard a soft knock on the door. She had rather missed having roommates and hoped who ever it was at her door was moving in with her. She got out of bed, turned on the light and, since she was already dressed in her regular clothes, she answered the door.
“Do you mind if I move in with you?” Tara asked. She had done a quick mental scan to make sure Aerie was in this room and was happy to discover she had no roommates. “My name’s Tara, by the way.” She was rather proud of herself. This had to be about the best she had ever been at being falsely nice.
“Yes, you can move in. I’m Aerie.” She said, more or less hiding her enthusiasm at having a new roommate.
Tara walked in, shutting the door behind her and Aerie climbed back up into her own bed. Tara sat on the lower bunk across from Aerie, and asked “Is this one taken?”
“No, I’m the only one staying in this room.”
“Not anymore. Well, see you in the morning.” With that, Tara flicked off the light and they both went to bed. However, Tara had something to take care of before she fell asleep. She needed to contact Damien.
Tara waited until she was sure Aerie was asleep, which wasn’t hard with her powers. After that, she got up and walked to the window. She had practiced making contact, but never from so far away. The first step was to use another creature to find Damien. So she waited. After a few minutes she saw a small songbird fly by the window, and grabbed hold of its mind. With complete control over the creature’s mind, she flew back to Damien’s lab. From there, it wasn’t hard to find him and jump to his mind.
“Hello, Damien. This is Tara.” She said, making it sound to Damien like she was in the room with him, speaking normally to him.
“Good to hear from you. What have you got to report?” He replied, Tara able to read his thoughts so he didn’t really have to speak out loud.
“Not much. I found the House, and got inside. They’ll let /anyone/ in. I have also met Aerie, and I’m staying in the room with her.”
“Alright. Contact me again in a week, or if something important happens.”
With that task complete, Tara severed the connection, climbed into her bed and quickly fell asleep.
