Aerie sat on her bed, she had been getting used to her Christmas presents. The yatzee game lay on the floor where she could keep an eye on it, she hadn't learned anything about it yet. Her two necklaces were hung on one of the bed posts. Her gloves, socks, and hat lay on her bed, she hadn't worn them because she did not want to tear holes in them with her claws or horns. She had the scarf around her neck, it was tied with both ends in the back the way a little kid might wear it like a cape or something, since she did not know the right way to wear it. She did not wear it because she was cold, but to cover up her collar. Her mythology book sat open in her lap, she was trying to read it. She had to decipher each letter, remember its sound, string all the sounds of one word together, work with the word until she got one she recognized, and finally put it with the other words she had figured out. All in all, it took her about an hour to read a paragraph.

Danica walked into the room. She had started walking upstairs for a reason, but it had been lost halfway up so she figured she'd just go to her room and figure out why later. Shutting the door behid her, she proceeded to flop down on her bed and greet Aerie with a short "Hey."

Startled out of her book by Danica's entrance, Aerie looked up. "Hello. What have you been doing all this time?" She asked, since she hadn't seen Danica in awhile. She had been struggling on a big word in her book that she had never seen before, so she decided to ask Danica. "What does m-e-d-i-e-v-a-l spell?"

"Medieval... like old... the Medieval era was about 900 years ago," Danica explained, not very clearly, but it was the best she could do at the spur of the moment. After a short momet of thought, she explained her absence to Aerie, saying, "I went back to where i'm from. Got a few things out of my parents place" she jestured toward a backpack sitting open on her bed, showing what to anyone but Danica would have looked like random junk. "I also went back to that slimehole juvie that I was in for a few days," she didn't mention that it was unintentionally, "and... went to my old lab too." She smiled to try to tell the other girl she that it didn't bother her, but it was a fake, fabricated smile. Not a genuine one.

Aerie closed the book, she had had enough reading for now and wanted to talk to her roommate. "You went back the lab? Why?" surely she had been dragged back to the lab, but then how did she escape again? She didn't say anything about 'juvie' since she had no idea what that was and didn't feel like asking. Had she not added 'slimehole' infront of it, she would have assumed it had been a good experience, such as home or something. She still thought it was something like that, just that Danica had been to a particularly bad one.

Why /had/ Danica gone back to her lab. It was mostly just an impulse, she thought. She'd been in the area, and decided to go out there. She wasn't sure why then, and she wasn't sure why now. It had just kind of happened. But she had to tell Aerie something. "Well, i was already near there and I suddenly had a feeling that it was where I should go." It was true. That was more or less how it happened. "So I took a bus to the nearest stop, walked a few miles, and there it was. And it was amazingly easy to get past the security. You would have thought they'd change the access codes once in a while." She stopped there. Getting in was the easy part, but the story of how she got out would be much longer and harder to tell.

That didn't seem like a good reason. If Aerie was anywhere near her old lab, she would have headed in the other direction as fast as possible. "So they just let you in and back out?" Damien would never do that. If he recaptured her, she doubted she would ever get away again. She didn't really understand much about security and access codes, so her best guess was she was allowed in. Damien wouldn't have stopped her from coming back.
