Echo had been wandering the House in Buffy's form, enjoying the weightless feeling of floating. She had finally found her mahogany box again, and now needed a place to put it. It was about time that she moved in somewhere. She found a door that looked like it hadn't been used in a while, and knocked. No-one answered. She opened the door, somewhat pleased to find no signs of anyone living there; neatly made beds, blank walls, and nothing in the cabinets. She would just have to change all that, wouldn't she?
Opening her box and touching a strand of hair in a compartment that had been labelled "Tarr" in Echo's handwriting, she quickly resumed her own form. She opened up another compartment and took some money out; not much, just enough to buy some decorations for the room, and headed out of the House.
She returned an hour or two later with an abstract art calendar, which she turned to June and pinned it up, a digital clock, which she set on top of the dresser, one of those neon green squish pillows, which she put on her bed, and a book about mythology which she put next to the clock. "So much for money," she said wistfully to herself. Time to go job-hunting again.

Bea needed to move in. She needed a semi-safe place to stash her stuff, and she needed a place to sleep. There didn't seem to be any rooms that were empty - at least, not at a quick glance - but one had an open door, and only one person in it. What's more, the sole inhabitant of this room seemed to be only moving in, herself. Maybe she wouldn't mind the company?
"Hello?" she said, feeling very small as she stood in the doorway. She held her backpack by the top loop, with the bag hanging past her knees. The rat-girl seemed to shrink back just a little, as if she could balance out her calling attention to herself by disappearing into her over-sized sweatshirt. "Do you mind if I stay here, too? You won't even know I'm here, I promise."

Echo started when she heard Bea, not expecting to get a visitor so soon. So much for having a room to herself. Well, it would be rude to say no, especially with so many more people than there were rooms. Well, she thought, I can always move back to the couch if it doesn't work out. So she said, "Sure. I should warn you though; I was 'genetically destabilized,' meaning I turn into whoever I touch, and most of the time I get a few of their memories, too. So try not to bump into me, unless you don't have any secrets you don't want me to know." Realizing she hadn't even introduced herself, she said, "I'm Jordan, but anymore I go by Echo."

She winced a little at Echo's description of her powers - Bea couldn't exactly afford to risk having certain memories overheard - but decided she'd be able to avoid physical contact. She wasn't exactly the clingy type, anyway.
"I'm Bea," she replied, putting her things on a top bunk across the room from the bed Echo had claimed. Bea liked top bunks - she could see people coming, and with her small frame she had no trouble scurrying up and down ladders. "I'll try to stay out of your way, I promise."

"We'll get along just fine, then," Echo said, with a bit of a nervous smile, as though the way Bea phrased her last sentence made her feel uncomfortable. She hadn't meant to scare the girl, or come off as rude or anything, but at the same time, she /did/ want Bea to 'stay out of her way.' She just wouldn't have phrased it that way.
(Meh, short post)
