Joo-Ki "Jellyman" Lee, Part 1
----------------------
Part 1: The Basics
1. What is your full name?
Joo-Ki Lee. I don’t think I have a middle name, like some humans do. You can call me Jellyman if you want because Joo-Ki is kind of weird.
2. Where and when were you born?
My birthday is on December 1. I’m almost seven! Oh, and I was made at Guiding Light.
3. Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)
Do metas have moms and dads? I’m not sure. Joe always said that metas are made, not born, like how somebody makes a picture. I asked Jerry about that, and all he could tell me was that human babies come out of stomachs, and metas don’t. Something like that.
4. Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
I guess the nine other metas in my group are like brothers and sisters, though. Kale, one of the oldest, is my best friend! He can levitate! He’s really nice to everybody. Rachel’s not so nice, though. She’s a meta who can read emotions, like how some metas read minds, and she’s way too… “sensitive,” I guess. The other seven kids kept getting moved around all the time, so I didn’t know them too good.
5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
I live at the Meta House now! It’s awesome, even though it looks kind of scary. I don’t know the other metas yet.
6. What is your occupation?
I’m a meta superhero! I protect weak people, especially humans since they have no powers. I pretty much keep an eye out for bad guys and fight them when I have to. I like to write and draw, too but that’s not my main job.
7. Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.
Okay. I’m not very tall, and I’m kind of skinny. I try to get muscles by practicing my punches, but it doesn’t work. Some kids who don’t know me think I’m Chinese, but I’m really Korean. (That’s why my name is weird.) My hair’s black and short, and I try to make it messy when grownups aren’t looking. My eyes are small, and the color is almost white. Okay, now my skin is the coolest part. It’s almost white, and it’s so thin that you can see my veins sometimes. When I’m around something called “black light,” it glows green, whether I want it to or not, and under really bright, regular light, it has hard-to-see rainbow colors, like fly wings. Some people say it’s pretty, but it’s not. It’s just awesome. Oh, and clothes. I pretty much wear what people give me. Right now, my clothes are way too big. I also wear these yellow, rubbery gloves that protect people from my stings.
8. To which social class do you belong?
Um, I’m a kid, so most people tell me what to do all the time and don’t listen to what I think. But Jerry said I’m a good leader sometimes with other kids, so I think I’m not always bossed around.
9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
My skin’s thin, so I bruise easy, and I have to wear warm clothes. But that doesn’t keep me from playing hard!
10. Are you right- or left-handed?
I write with my left hand, but I sting just as good with both.
11. What does your voice sound like?
I’m small, so my voice is kind of high. People say I’m loud, too, but I have to shout for people to pay attention sometimes.
12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
“Stinging punch!” because all heroes need something to yell a lot. “Jerry!” “I’m Jellyman,” and “Whoa!” are things I say sometimes, too.
13. What do you have in your pockets?
I have my bottle of vinegar. I always carry it around because you never know when I might accidentally sting somebody. Oh, and I have a quarter that I found in the street. Metal money is cool-looking.
14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
Some people think I play too hard; Joe always told me to use my inside voice. Some grownups say that I brag too much, but I’m proud of my superpowers! Some kids say that I’m a liar because they think I don’t have super reflexes. I do too! They’re just not very fast yet. Oh, and I eat string cheese really slow because I peel it into tiny, tiny pieces.
Part 2: Growing Up
15. How would you describe your childhood in general?
It was fun! I learned a lot, and I had people who took care of me.
16. What is your earliest memory?
The first thing I remember is when Jerry brought a blind-person dog into class when I was just four. It was so cool! He was yellow-colored and had long, shiny, soft-looking hair. I remember crying – no, almost crying – because I couldn’t pet him without my gloves.
17. How much schooling have you had?
Like the other kids, I started going to class when I was three and kept going until I left home. I don’t know if I’ll get to go to school again.
18. Did you enjoy school?
It was pretty fun, mostly. I didn’t like numbers, but we always got to read and write and learn songs and play, too.
19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
I always knew I had stinging powers because Jerry was always warning me about it; he told me to use my powers for good. I knew about my glowing power, too, because that happens whenever I have strong feelings.
20. While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.
Jerry! I liked him because he wasn’t like other grownups. He’d talk to you without doing that squeaky-voice, baby-talk thing that some people do. He made school fun, too; he always made jokes. I always tried to do what he told me: “help people,” “never hurt people with your powers,” “never boss people around,” “don’t hurt animals,” “be proud of yourself.” Stuff like that. I mean, he didn’t always say it just like that, but I got what he meant. Superman isn’t a real guy, but he’s another, um, “role model” for me. I try to follow his rules of helping people and never killing anybody.
21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
Like I said, Kale and I were best friends. Whenever I had an awesome idea (and that happened a lot), he’d help me with it. He wasn’t very good at imagining stories, but he could do some cool voices. Rachel, though, got on my nerves a lot. She’d cry for dumb reasons, and whenever I tried to help her, she’d yell at me. She had no reason to be sad at Guiding Light.
22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A superhero! But I’m that already, so I don’t have to wish for it anymore.
23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?
Wait, these questions are weird. I’m still a kid, right? But anyway, I like to read and write and draw and play pretend. When I get bored with that, I practice fighting.
24. As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
The same as now. I get excited about stuff, I’m good at making stuff up, and I try to do the right thing most of the time.
25. As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?
Not everybody became really good friends with me, but I think most metas liked me. Kale was my best friend, like I said.
26. When and with whom was your first kiss?
Ew! Why would I put my lips on a girl’s lips? How would I know she wasn’t eating sand or something?
27. Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?
What’s a virginity? How can you lose it?
28. If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.
Humans made me this way to help them; they need people who can give stinging punches! That’s all I know.
Part 3: Past Influences
29. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
Leaving Guiding Light. I just know everything’s going to be different now.
30. Who has had the most influence on you?
Jerry.
31. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I wrote an awesome story when I was five. It was about how Kale, me, and some other metas saved a bunch of humans from Mr. Darkness, a bad guy who blocked the sun from the Earth with a giant cloud. I was proud because it was twenty pages long, not counting the pictures. Jerry said it was good, and Kale liked how he got to levitate to the giant cloud in the story. But most of all, it made me happy.
32. What is your greatest regret?
I wish I could have taken Kale and the other metas with me to the Meta House. I think they would have liked it here. They’re powerful, too, so they could have been helpful on the team. I don’t feel too bad about that, though, because I couldn’t do anything about it.
33. What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
I think I was too mean to Rachel sometimes. It was hard not to be, though, because she should have been happy. I don’t really remember any time when I was mean the most.
34. Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
No way! I’d never break laws!
35. When was the time you were the most frightened?
On the way to the Meta House, Jerry and Joe stopped the van when it was dark out. I think they thought I was asleep, so they started yelling at each other. I was really scared because Joe kept saying I wasn’t safe away from Guiding Light. I didn’t get it, and when I’m really, really confused, I get scared sometimes. And it was dark, so that made it worse.
36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
This one time, Kale and I were running around the room with our capes on. I kept saying, “Nothing can stop Jellyman! Nothing! Nothing!” And then somebody stepped on my cape and made me fall. I wasn’t that mad because it was an accident, but I was embarrassed. I think it’s kind of funny now.
37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
I would have brought the other metas with me. I miss them sometimes.
38. What is your best memory?
The blind-person-dog thing was cool. But it’s hard to pick just one good thing.
39. What is your worst memory?
When Jerry and Joe yelled at each other that one time.
Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions
40. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?
Optimistic. That means that you think most people are good, right? Because I really think that. I also think that good guys always win at the end and that bad people can learn to be good.
41. What is your greatest fear?
I’m kind of scared of the dark. I also don’t like to feel small. But most of all, I don’t want to kill a human by mistake.
42. What are your religious views?
Is religion the thing when people close their eyes and sing in big, cool-looking houses? I saw that on T. V. once. It seemed nice, but I didn't get it. If they wanted to take a nap or sing, why didn’t they just go to school?
43. What are your political views?
If you’re the leader of a group, you should protect everybody and listen to them. Never do anything that only makes you happy.
44. What are your views on sex?
What’s “sex?” Is it bad?
45. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
I’d never kill anybody! Yeah, I can punch and kick, but I’d never hurt someone so bad that they’d die! It’s never good to kill someone, no matter what, because they can always become good again.
46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?
Hurting someone smaller and weaker than you, especially old people, really little kids, and animals. That’s not only mean – it’s what cowards do!
47. Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?
Girls always talk about true love when they play “princess in a tower.” It’s dumb. You don’t need some “true love” guy to save you! Just call for a firefighter. Or Superman! So, since I’m not a girl, I don’t think true love is real. And what are “soul mates?”
48. What do you believe makes a successful life?
Make good friends, help people, and do what you're good at.
49. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?
Well, I try to be brave and strong. Since I’m a meta, people depend on me. But I’m scared a lot sometimes because there’s lots of things that I just don’t get. And… and sometimes I think my powers aren’t strong enough. But I don’t think that too much.
50. Do you have any biases or prejudices?
I don’t like some girls, especially if they cry too much, but I mostly like any good person.
51. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?
I would never, never hit a dog. Know why? If you hurt a dog, then all it learns is how to hurt people. A dog who could have been nice might become mean because some jerk was mean to him, and then the dog has to be put to sleep. I’d never do that to a dog!
52. Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?
Die? Um… um… Joe always said metas might have to die to help humans, but I don’t really know if I could do that. Dying sounds awful. But I’m always ready to do really hard or dangerous things for people. That’s my job!
