Be sure to ask Lunar for use of this lab in your character's backstory.
Orion Labs is a medium-sized facility a few days travel from the House. It's an uninteresting structure, concrete and steel and tinted, bulletproof plate glass. Four storys above ground, two below, and seeming rather out of place in it's carefully groomed grounds out at the very edge of a small city. The building is U-shaped, the two parellel wings sticking out away from the main road, with a large courtyard and a bit of lawn between, carefully fenced off, with live electricity and razor wire. If you look at the right time of day, from the small private road that runs near the back, you might see one group or another of the experiments, or in patients, as the scientist here prefer to call them.
Orion does a little of everything, but the work that's been most sucessful is that in psychic enhancement. Project Third Eye was an early attempt at this, involving one hundred teenagers and children and a substance known as Sybl-4 serum. PTE is known, among the "in patients," for it's imprecise results and high mortality rates. Today, seven years after the beginning of the project, only a handful remain. Several have also escaped over the years, most notably Zepher Petersen, founder of the House. Other psy-enhancement projects have followed, including Project Sixth Sense (which investigated the effects of animal DNA on Sybl serums, and is currently ongoing) and the Imagine Experiment. The director of a project at Orion Labs gets to name the project, and many of them pride themselves on their abilities in naming their projects.
There are, of course, other projects - Project Arc, which infused its human subjects with animal DNA, and Project Witch's Familiar, which infused its animal subjects with human DNA. The Mechanic's Shop specializes in extensive prothsethics, creating cyborgs, although many of them come of their own free will for treatment, and leave again, too. All in patients bear a tattoo on the nape of their neck, with the abreviation of their project group and their personal id number, for easy identification.
There are a good half-dozen scientists working full-time at Orion, but few experiments become familiar with more than one or two. Dr. Ryan Marino, co-director of Project Third Eye and later director of Project Sixth Sense, is one, and the one that Zepher and Eric are most familiar with. He's an enigmatic man, claiming to have the best interests of the experments at heart, and sometimes quite charismatic, but willing to sacrifice one for the good of the whole, as he puts it, often untill there's barely a "whole" left. He currently has a spy in place at the House - Bea, a rat-girl from Project Sixth Sense.
Zepher's official descripton and history and expecially Eric's might also give some information as to life at Orion Labs.
