NOTE TO NEW READERS OF THIS THREAD:I plan to keep adding to my group picture as new characters arrive at the House. So if you've only recently joined After The Lab, never fear. You can still request a character you have on ATL to be rendered in pixellated goodness (by yours truly), and added to the group pic. You need to have at least fifty posts before requesting a character, though. This is so people can't just join ATL, request a character, and then leave. Thorough descriptions and suggestions for poses are much appreciated. "Just standing there" doesn't tend to be a very flattering pose for sprites. Lastly, never hesitate to tell me if I get something wrong. I'd rather receive constructive criticism than end up with a picture that isn't as good as it could be, or worse, isn't true to the character. Original post:I've finally finished my masterpiece!!! What you are about to see is the most detailed, biggest, and (if I do say so myself) the most beautiful pixel picture I've ever done. Which isn't necessarily saying much. But it did take many many hours (the reason I haven't been posting), and I did it all for you guys. So be grateful, dengit! Actually, I don't really care if I get praise or (constructive!) criticism, so long as I know that people are looking at it. Anyway, without further ado . . . . . . . (drumroll) . . . . . . . . . . It's the House! i50.photobucket.com/albums/f347/tobey158/TheHouse.jpgI'm not exactly clear what makes a house 'victorian', so I'm just kind of hoping that what I've drawn is, in fact, a victorian house. But anyway, it gets even better. If you guys all like what I've drawn, I'll use it as the backdrop for a group 'photo' of the residents (it's been a while since the last group picture that Lunar drew, so I figure we're about due for another one). This is probably going to be a majorly long-term project for me, since I'm still pretty much a beginner at pixel art, so don't expect anything right away. I think I'll start with the characters of people who are active, so if you want to see your character, post. So anyway, which characters does anyone want me to do first? And do you have any suggestions for appearance or pose? I'd appreciate suggestions for poses, because neutral 'just standing there' poses are hard for me to do with pixels.

Oh, it's BEAUTIFUL!
If you want to do a group picture, and you need someone to fill outlines in, I can. I mean like--only if you want me to, and I don't want to do any of the drawing, but my pixel shading's actually fairly good.
I guess Guadalupe, English and Gabriel could be in the picture. I haven't done much with Iris, sooo---
Umm, Guadalupe can have her hands on her hiiiips. That always has seemed like a Guadalupe pose to me. And--umm, she always seems to be drawn with pick tops, so that might be nice, too.
I have no suggestions for the other two, because I'm lame.
The wood railings and banisters look AWESOME! Seriously, it almost looks real!

Thanks for the compliments. *beams*
Thanks for the offer, but shading is like, my favorite part. Plus, there are lots of different ways to shade things that have an impact on the overall look of something.
And, uh, what exactly is a 'pick top'?

-gasp- Tis beautimous! I want to hug it. And I totally want Aerial and Argentine in there if you do a group. Aerial should be on the roof like a gargoyle and Argentine should look vaguly out of it.
I know nothing about pixels so that kind of stuff is way amazing to me. I like, can't even function is HTML so you totally rock for doing that.

OOOOH, THAT'S NICE! How do you do that?!
I could never...
Ah, I WILL POST. I WILL. (-cough- sometime) As soon as the chickies are well, and the newest (and last, I think) baby gets fluffed, and I know they're eating normal and all. Hm. And when I /do/ post, think you could make Kat? I dunno if you can draw her better as human or tiger... either way, she will /not/ be paying attention of the front of the screen. I'll think of a pose or something later

Oooh, drawing Aerial will be fun. I hope you don't mind him being a bit smallish, though, if he is to be on the roof, and thus farther away in a perspective sense. Whoever said I knew anything about HTML? I use Paint for my pixel pics. Just zoom in, and voila! Pixels. Basically, I zoom in, mess with the pixels, and then zoom out to see how it looks. That's why I like paint; I don't lose resolution when I zoom in and out. As for how I do it, I'm more or less self-taught, but I got my tentative start from these tutorials. The link takes you to the main page, so then click 'tuturials' (I know that's a typo, but tell that to the guy that made the website). I'd suggest starting with the guy in the upper left of the tutorial page. I admit that I sort of cheat on the shading. I don't take base colors and then adjust them lighter and darker like most people would do (for one thing, I haven't had a lot of luck creating my own colors in Paint). Instead, I find already shaded sprites, copy and paste, and take their color palettes. It's a good method for seeing what a shading scheme looks like on an object before you use it; there's more to shading than just light and dark, I've found. And I've found that Pokemon sprites work most excellently, because no matter what particular color you're looking for, there's a Pokemon somewhere out there that has it. And you can always mix and match highlight colors and shading colors to get slightly different effects, or to make the color range bigger. I don't remember what all Pokemon gave their colors to the House, but I think I used Dusclops brown on the wooden railings. And I think the grass might be Anorith green. Anyway, thanks everyone for the compliments. Squee, self-esteeem feels good!

Tobey, large doll sites have palettes for people to use, and that's easier than getting palettes from spriiiites. And you don't usually have to credit.
Dusclops brown. That's awesome.
And you're amazing for shading in Paint. I just--don't even try. I can't do it. (I can't zoom in enough.) ((Well, and I'm a wimp. I won't start anything without--many, many, maaaaaannnnnny layers.))
So, your amazing kicks butt!

Yes, that means I like it. I didn't have time to say much of anything, was getting chased off by the parental units, but I figured I could at least drop a compliment before I disappeared. Because, d**n, Tobey, that's impressive.
And, considering that I /finally/ had a study hall that wasn't taken up by this stupid thing called homework, I have a (in my opinion, subpar, but oh well) post sitting next to me about to be typed up, so I'll count as active in the next...however long it takes me to type it. Which means I can contribute to the okaying a group picture, and requesting my characters.
Which I am, surprise!
At least Adrian. You can choose if you want to do the other two, as I neglect them...far too much. Woe is they. Crossed arms is always a good pose for Adri. Black or red shirts and black or dark pants are never wrong on him. ^-^

Yay for Aerial. Being small is fine and I should mention that he always wears light colors. You can put Argent in anything so long as he looks bored and vaguely gothic.

But I liiiike getting palettes from sprites. And plus, how many colors do doll sites offer? Considering that some pokemon have multiple colors, and the shiny pokemon have their own set of colors, and each /version/'s pokemon might have slightly different colors . . . you've got a rather vast selection to shop from. In the hundreds, easily; possibly in the thousands.
Yay! I didn't even know that I /had/ an amazing, let alone that it could kick butt.
I think I'll do Repete, at the very least. Fair warning; I reserve the right to draw any unasked characters unless their owner expressly forbids me to. Which means that there's a fairly good chance I might draw Iris for Kitty, and Lia for Noface.
Oh, and one more thing; once I start drawing people's characters, if I get anything wrong about your character, even the slightest detail, please point it out to me. That's a nice thing about pixel drawings; they're really easy to touch up. And I don't want to go along thinking I've drawn a character right, and then look at the description and realize I'd gotten it wrong and nobody said anything.

Okay, I've got a basic outline of Guadalupe done. I wanted Kitty to see it before I start choosing colors and shading and such, to make sure I didn't get anything glaringly wrong. Rough sketch of GuadalupeSo, do you see anything that could be made better?

Oh, her expression is PERFECT! Honestly, it's amazing. I'm stunned. (And you pixel in Paint, which still gains you points in my book.)
I have a few, small things. The waves in her hair are a bit tight, and her hair's a bit thin on the left side, and she tends to wear baggy paaants, but you wouldn't have know that.
Would you mind terribly if I red lined? I can't really explain how to fix it, and I don't want you to have to worry about it too much. (Seriously, I was making this banner for this girl, and she made me fix like--a million, zillion things, and it drove me NUTSO!) If you don't want that, though, I understand.

If it would make you feel better to red-line, go ahead. If you don't want to take the trouble, then don't, and I'll see what I can do on my own. Either way is really fine with me.
This is probably a dumb question, but what do you mean that the waves in her hair are too 'tight'? Does that mean that her hair needs to be more straight-ish?

Like--bigger, rounder waves. Does that make any sense?
Mediocre Red Line
Okay, that didn't turn out so well, but at least it'll help you with her hair.
I still haven't got over her facial expression. You win at liiiiife, seriously.

Lol, I just got an image of me playing a slot machine, and the wheels spelled "LIFE". Anyway, thank you.
Otay, I will go forth and edit Guadalupe. I might not use your exact changes pixel for pixel, but I really do like the way you've drawn her hair. Do you want to see the outline again after the changes?
